Description

The Malibu Hybrid was sold from 2016 to 2019 as the economical version of the ninth-generation Malibu. It uses a 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with two electric motors and a small lithium-ion battery of about 1.5 kWh, with a combined output of about 182 hp. The technology is derived from the Chevrolet Volt. The US rating is about 46 mpg combined, which is clearly better than the normal Malibu. The battery sits behind the rear seat, so the boot is somewhat smaller, and the car has an electronic CVT-type transmission. Chevrolet dropped the hybrid after 2019 as demand for it was low.
