Description
The Chevrolet LS3 is the 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 that became one of the most famous and best-loved LS variants. Introduced in 2008, it replaced the LS2 in the Corvette and quickly built a reputation for combining strong factory power, excellent cylinder heads, and exceptional tuning potential in a simple pushrod package.
Chevrolet designed the LS3 as a larger and more capable evolution of the earlier LS architecture. With 6.2 liters of displacement, high-flow rectangular-port heads, sequential fuel injection, and an OHV 16-valve valvetrain, the LS3 produced around 430 to 436 HP and roughly 575 Nm of torque in stock form. It kept the core LS strengths of compact size and mechanical simplicity while offering noticeably stronger top-end power than many earlier variants.
On the road, the LS3 feels flexible, immediate, and easy to live with. It became a major success in the Corvette, Camaro SS, and other GM performance applications, and it is also one of the most common crate and swap engines on the market. That mix of factory performance, durability, and huge aftermarket support is exactly why the LS3 is often seen as the default answer when someone wants a modern naturally aspirated American V8.
