Description
The Chevrolet LS6 is the high-performance 5.7-liter evolution of the LS1 and one of the defining engines of the early LS era. Best known for its use in the Corvette Z06 and first-generation Cadillac CTS-V, the LS6 took the core LS1 formula and sharpened it for more serious performance work.
Chevrolet engineered the LS6 with improved breathing, revised internals, and a more focused calibration to increase output and track capability. It kept the familiar aluminum-block pushrod layout and sequential fuel injection but raised performance to roughly 385 to 405 HP with about 522 Nm of torque depending on year and application. The result was a more aggressive naturally aspirated engine that still preserved the compact size and mechanical simplicity that made the LS platform so effective.
In real driving, the LS6 feels sharper and more urgent than a standard LS1. It helped establish the Corvette Z06 as a world-class performance car for its time and remains a respected engine among enthusiasts who want a high-output naturally aspirated Gen III LS without jumping straight to larger-displacement variants.
