Description

The Chevrolet LS9 is a supercharged OHV V8 petrol engine produced from 2009 to 2013 exclusively for the C6 Corvette ZR1, representing the most powerful engine GM had ever put into a production Corvette at the time and one of the most significant American performance engines of its era. Built around the LS3-derived architecture but with forced induction and numerous internal reinforcements, the LS9 was designed from the outset to be a genuine supercar-level powertrain capable of sustained high-speed and track use rather than just straight-line acceleration.

Producing 638hp and a substantial 819Nm of torque from 6,162cc, the LS9 uses an Eaton positive-displacement supercharger, a dry-sump oiling system for reliable high-g cornering performance, titanium connecting rods, forged pistons, and a comparatively low 9.1:1 compression ratio appropriate for a heavily boosted engine, all combining to make the ZR1 capable of genuine 320+ km/h top speeds and acceleration figures that rivaled far more expensive European exotics of the same period, at a fraction of their price.
