The Chevrolet LS9 is a supercharged OHV V8 petrol engine produced from 2009 to 2013 exclusively for the C6 Corvette ZR1, representing the most powerful engine GM had ever put into a production Corvette at the time and one of the most significant American performance engines of its era. Built around the LS3-derived architecture but with forced induction and numerous internal reinforcements, the LS9 was designed from the outset to be a genuine supercar-level powertrain capable of sustained high-speed and track use rather than just straight-line acceleration.

The supercharger drive belt and supercharger unit itself are specific maintenance items not found on naturally aspirated LS engines, and should be inspected as part of routine service given the additional mechanical stress of forced induction. The dry-sump oiling system requires familiarity with its specific service procedures, similar to the LS7, including multiple oil reservoirs and dedicated scavenge pumps rather than a conventional single-sump arrangement.

Given the ZR1's exotic positioning and relatively low production numbers, LS9-equipped Corvettes command a significant premium over lesser Corvette variants, and buyers should seek out a thoroughly documented maintenance history, including any supercharger servicing and oil system work, given the complexity and cost of this engine relative to more common naturally aspirated LS variants.
