The Hyundai/Kia Nu 1.6 GDI is a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated inline-four petrol engine produced since 2010, used widely across Hyundai and Kia's compact lineup, including the Elantra, i30, Tucson, Cerato, Ceed, and Sportage. As part of Hyundai-Kia's Nu engine family, it represents a step up in technology from the group's older multi-point-injection engines, adopting gasoline direct injection to improve both efficiency and specific output while remaining naturally aspirated.
Producing 130-132hp and 165-167Nm of torque from 1,591cc, the Nu 1.6 GDI uses a DOHC 16-valve head and a relatively high 11.3:1 compression ratio, made possible without forced induction thanks to the more precise combustion control that direct injection allows.
