The Ford 5.0L Coyote V8 is Ford's modern naturally aspirated DOHC V8, introduced for the 2011 model year as the long-awaited return of the 5.0 badge in the Mustang GT. Although it evolved from the broader Modular V8 family, the Coyote was a major redesign rather than a mild update, created to deliver strong power, high-RPM capability, and modern efficiency from a compact all-aluminum V8. It quickly became one of Ford's most important petrol performance engines and remains a central part of the Mustang story.
In standard form, the Coyote uses a 90-degree aluminum V8 block, dual overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, twin independent variable cam timing, and a timing chain drive. Early versions used port fuel injection only, while later generations added direct injection alongside port injection. Depending on generation and application, factory output ranges from about 360 to 500 HP and roughly 515 to 569 Nm of torque.
