Description

The Ford 2.7L EcoBoost V6 is a twin-turbocharged member of Ford's Nano V6 family, introduced for the 2015 model year in the Ford F-150. It was developed to deliver V8-like torque and real-world performance from a smaller-displacement petrol engine, while improving fuel economy and reducing weight compared with larger naturally aspirated alternatives. From the start, the 2.7 EcoBoost stood out because it was not just a downsized version of an older V6, but a clean-sheet turbocharged design created specifically for modern trucks, SUVs, and performance-oriented crossovers.

The development philosophy behind the 2.7 EcoBoost focused on combining strong low-end torque, compact packaging, and modern efficiency technologies in a durable V6 architecture. The engine uses a 60-degree V6 layout, dual overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, twin turbochargers, and a compacted graphite iron block with aluminum cylinder heads. First-generation versions used direct injection, while the later second-generation engine added port injection alongside direct injection for improved performance, emissions behavior, and reduced intake valve deposit buildup. Depending on generation and application, output generally ranges from about 315 to 335 HP, with torque spanning roughly 475 to 563 Nm.

In real-world use, the 2.7 EcoBoost became especially respected in the F-150 because it delivers strong pulling power at low RPM without the size and fuel appetite of a traditional V8. It was also used in vehicles such as the Ford Edge Sport and ST, Ford Bronco, Ford Fusion Sport, and several Lincoln models, proving that the same basic engine could work in both truck and performance crossover roles. The second-generation version introduced for the 2018 F-150 brought further refinement, more torque, and a revised fuel system that made the engine even more competitive.

The 2.7 EcoBoost should be understood as a family of closely related twin-turbo V6 variants rather than as one fixed specification. That matters because output, fuel system details, and some hardware changed depending on model year and vehicle application. Even so, the core identity stayed the same - a compact, modern, torque-rich Ford V6 designed to give strong performance without needing large displacement.
