Description
The Ford 1.0 EcoBoost is a turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine from Ford's Fox family and one of the best-known downsized engines of the modern era. Introduced in 2012, it was developed to deliver the fuel economy of a small-capacity engine without making mainstream Ford models feel underpowered in everyday driving. The 1.0 EcoBoost quickly became important to Ford in Europe and other global markets, where it was used across a wide range of small and compact cars.
At its core, the 1.0 EcoBoost is a 999 cc inline-three with direct injection, dual overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, and a turbocharger. The engine uses a cast-iron block and an aluminum cylinder head, while early versions are known for their oil-bathed timing belt design; later evolutions moved to a chain-driven arrangement in some applications. Depending on version and market, output ranges from about 99 to 168 HP, with torque typically spanning 170 to 248 Nm.
In real-world use, the 1.0 EcoBoost became popular because it gives small Ford models much stronger mid-range performance than a traditional naturally aspirated 1.0-liter engine. It was fitted to cars such as the Fiesta, Focus, C-Max, B-Max, EcoSport, and later Puma, proving flexible enough for both economy-focused and more powerful trims. This card should be understood as a family-level entry for the Ford 1.0 EcoBoost rather than one single fixed specification.
