Description
The Ford 1.5 EcoBoost is a turbocharged inline-four petrol engine from Ford's Sigma-based EcoBoost family. It was introduced as a downsized successor to the 1.6 EcoBoost and was designed to preserve the strong mid-range performance expected from a turbocharged four-cylinder while lowering displacement for tax, emissions, and efficiency reasons in many markets. In practice, it became one of Ford's main small-capacity turbo engines for mainstream passenger cars during the mid-2010s.
This engine uses an aluminum block and aluminum cylinder head, dual overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, direct fuel injection, and a turbocharger. Bore and stroke are approximately 79.0 mm and 76.5 mm, giving 1,499 cc displacement. Depending on market and tune, family outputs range from about 148 to 187 HP and from roughly 240 to 270 Nm. As a family entry, this card covers the broader 1.5 EcoBoost inline-four range rather than one single calibration.
The 1.5 EcoBoost was used in vehicles such as the Fusion, Focus, Mondeo, Escape and some C-Max applications, where it offered noticeably better low- and mid-range torque than naturally aspirated engines of similar size. Like many modern small turbo direct-injection engines, it rewards careful maintenance more than neglect, especially where cooling-system condition and oil-change discipline are concerned.
