SKYACTIV-G is the umbrella name for Mazda's family of naturally aspirated direct-injection petrol engines introduced from 2011 onward, spanning displacements from 1.5 to 2.5 liters and used across nearly the entire modern Mazda lineup, including the Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-3, CX-5, and CX-30. Rather than following the wider industry trend toward small-displacement turbocharging, Mazda took a deliberately different engineering path with SKYACTIV-G, pursuing efficiency gains through combustion improvements in a naturally aspirated engine instead.
