Description

The Fiat 1.6 MultiJet is the mid-sized member of the MultiJet family created to replace and downsize some older 1.9-liter diesel applications without losing useful torque. Introduced in 2006, it quickly became an important engine for compact cars, crossovers, and family hatchbacks where buyers wanted strong diesel drivability with lower emissions and better economy than older larger units.

Fiat developed the 1.6 MultiJet as a modern common-rail turbo diesel with a 1598 cc displacement, DOHC 16-valve layout, and a broad spread of outputs to suit different brands and vehicle weights. Depending on version, power ranged from roughly 90 to 130 HP, while torque typically reached from around 200 up to 320 Nm. That made it significantly more flexible than the smaller 1.3 while still offering very competitive economy.

In practice, the 1.6 MultiJet became one of the most balanced engines in the family. It offered enough torque for larger C-segment cars and compact SUVs, yet remained efficient enough for daily use and long-distance driving. That balance is exactly why it appeared in so many Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Jeep, Opel, and Suzuki applications.
