Description

The Geely 1.8 JLC-4G18 is a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated inline-four petrol engine produced since 2010, based on an older Mitsubishi-derived architecture and used across a range of older and entry-level Geely models, including the Emgrand EC7, Vision, SC7, MK, and FC, sold primarily in China and other developing automotive markets. It represents an earlier, more conventional generation of Geely engineering compared with the brand's newer, Volvo-influenced turbocharged engines.

Producing 133hp and 170Nm of torque from 1,792cc, the JLC-4G18 uses a DOHC 16-valve head, conventional multi-point fuel injection, and a compression ratio of 10.0:1, resulting in a straightforward, tolerant design that is relatively insensitive to fuel quality variation compared with more advanced direct-injection engines - a genuinely useful trait in markets where consistent fuel quality cannot always be assumed. Oil leaks from the valve cover gasket are a common, inexpensive-to-fix issue on older examples, though a persistent burning oil smell should always be investigated. Performance is adequate rather than exciting - 133hp from a naturally aspirated 1.8-liter feels unremarkable next to modern turbocharged rivals - and fuel consumption is correspondingly less competitive than more modern engine designs, reflecting the engine's older underlying architecture.
