The Renault K9K 656 is a specific factory tune of Renault's 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four common-rail diesel engine (dCi), part of the wider K9K family developed jointly with Nissan and used across the entire Renault-Nissan-Dacia Alliance. First introduced in 2001 and still in production in various forms more than two decades later, the K9K became one of the most widely produced small diesel engines in automotive history, thanks to its use across an enormous range of vehicles from the Clio and Micra to the Duster, Qashqai, and Mercedes Citan (supplied to Daimler under the Renault-Nissan-Mercedes alliance).
The 656 designation identifies this engine's specific state of tune within the K9K family: 220 Nm of torque delivered from 1,750rpm, produced from 2005 to 2015, and used primarily in the Nissan Micra K12, Note E11, and Tiida C11.
