Description

The Renault F9Q is a 1.9-liter turbocharged inline-four common-rail diesel engine produced from 2000 to 2015, used extensively across Renault's larger models including the Megane, Laguna, Espace, Vel Satis, Scenic, and the Trafic and Master vans, as well as - through cross-manufacturer supply arrangements - the Nissan Primastar and Interstar, Opel Vivaro and Movano, and even the Volvo S40 and V50 (as the D4). It represented Renault's larger-displacement diesel option through the 2000s and into the mid-2010s, positioned above the smaller 1.5 dCi K9K for buyers needing more power and towing capability.

Producing between 80 and 130hp and strong torque of 200-300Nm from 1,750rpm, the F9Q uses a SOHC 8-valve head - simpler than the DOHC layout of the smaller K9K - and a high 18.5:1 compression ratio typical of common-rail diesel combustion, resulting in genuinely strong low-end pulling power well suited to the larger vehicles and vans it was most commonly fitted to. Renault rated the F9Q for an impressive 400,000km-plus service life in commercial van applications, reflecting the robust, simple architecture underlying the design.
