Description
The Chevrolet LS2 is the 6.0-liter successor to the LS1 and one of the most important naturally aspirated engines in the early LS family. Introduced for the 2005 model year, it expanded the formula of the LS1 by adding more displacement, more torque, and better overall breathing while keeping the same compact pushrod architecture that made the platform so popular.
Chevrolet developed the LS2 as a stronger and more versatile evolution of the Gen III concept. It retained the aluminum-block V8 layout in performance applications, OHV valvetrain, and sequential fuel injection, but increased displacement to 6.0 liters and raised output to roughly 390 to 400 HP with about 542 Nm of torque depending on application. The LS2 delivered a noticeable step forward in mid-range performance and became a key bridge between the LS1 generation and later 6.2-liter engines.
In use, the LS2 is known for strong street performance, easy tuning, and excellent swap potential. It appeared in the Corvette, Pontiac GTO, SSR, and TrailBlazer SS, proving that the same core engine could work in both sports cars and heavier performance vehicles. For many enthusiasts, the LS2 remains one of the best-balanced naturally aspirated LS engines ever built.
