Description
The Fiat 1.9 MultiJet is one of the most historically important branches of the wider JTD and MultiJet family. It evolved from the earlier 1.9 JTD line that played a major role in bringing common-rail diesel technology into mainstream passenger cars, and later MultiJet versions refined that formula with better injection control, broader power outputs, and stronger performance.
Built around a 1910 cc inline-four diesel layout, the 1.9 MultiJet appeared in both 8-valve and 16-valve forms and covered a wide range of applications from practical hatchbacks to more serious executive cars and sporty diesels. Depending on version, outputs ranged from roughly 100 HP to as much as 190 HP in twin-turbo form, while torque stretched from about 255 Nm to 400 Nm. That wide spread explains why the 1.9 became such a key engine for Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Opel, Saab, and other brands.
In real use, the 1.9 MultiJet earned a reputation for strong mid-range pull, long-distance ability, and broad versatility. It is not as small and economy-focused as the 1.3, and not as modern in concept as some later 1.6 and 2.0 derivatives, but it remains one of the defining engines in the MultiJet story because of how many cars and markets it reached.
