The Peugeot EB2ADTX (PureTech 155) is a 1.2-liter turbocharged, direct-injection inline-three petrol engine produced since 2018, the most powerful version of the PSA Group's PureTech engine family, used in performance-leaning applications of the Peugeot 2008, Citroën C4, and DS models. It represents PSA's most aggressive application of small-displacement turbocharging, extracting genuinely strong performance from an unusually small three-cylinder engine.
Producing 155hp and 240Nm of torque from just 1,199cc, the EB2ADTX uses a DOHC head with VTi variable valve timing, direct fuel injection, a turbocharger, and a compression ratio of 10.5:1, resulting in specific output that rivals much larger naturally aspirated engines - a genuine engineering achievement, though one that places correspondingly higher demands on the engine's oil quality and maintenance discipline than the milder naturally aspirated EB2 or the mid-range EB2DT.
As with any small, highly-tuned turbocharged direct-injection engine, several maintenance considerations deserve particular attention. The turbocharger works hard relative to the engine's small displacement and requires consistent, on-schedule oil changes with the correct specification oil - this matters more here than on the lower-output PureTech variants, since a highly boosted small engine has less margin for maintenance neglect. Carbon buildup on the intake valves develops from direct injection over time, a trait shared by essentially all modern GDI engines, and periodic intake cleaning helps manage this as mileage accumulates. Being a three-cylinder engine, it has an inherent vibration characteristic that some drivers notice more at idle and low RPM than they would with a four-cylinder equivalent. As one of PSA's newer and more highly stressed small-engine variants, closely following the manufacturer's specified service schedule - rather than extending intervals to save money - is particularly important for long-term reliability given how much work this small displacement engine is being asked to do at its highest state of tune.
