Description

The Peugeot EB2DT (PureTech 110) is a 1.2-liter turbocharged, direct-injection inline-three petrol engine produced since 2014, the mid-range performance version of the PSA Group's PureTech family, used extensively across the Peugeot 208, 2008, and 308, the Citroën Berlingo, C3, C3 Aircross, C4 Cactus, C4 Picasso, and DS3, and the Opel/Vauxhall Crossland X and Combo. It represents the volume mainstream tune within the PureTech range, balancing genuinely useful performance with reasonable running costs.

Producing 110hp and 205Nm of torque from 1,199cc, the EB2DT uses a DOHC head with VTi variable valve timing, direct fuel injection, a single turbocharger, and a compression ratio of 10.5:1, delivering noticeably stronger low-end torque than the naturally aspirated EB2 while remaining considerably more affordable to maintain than the high-output EB2ADTX. This combination of turbocharging and direct injection in such a small three-cylinder package was central to PSA's efficiency strategy across its compact-car range during the mid-to-late 2010s.

As with virtually all modern turbocharged direct-injection engines, the EB2DT is prone to gradual carbon buildup on the intake valves over high mileage, since fuel is sprayed directly into the combustion chamber rather than over the valves as with older port-injection designs; periodic intake cleaning is a sensible preventive measure as mileage accumulates. The turbocharger requires attentive maintenance, with consistent, on-schedule oil changes mattering considerably more here than on a naturally aspirated engine - extending oil change intervals is one of the more common causes of premature turbo wear on small, hard-working turbocharged engines. Being a three-cylinder engine, it has an inherent vibration characteristic that some drivers notice at idle and low RPM. With attentive maintenance respecting PSA's specified service intervals, the EB2DT delivers a genuinely appealing blend of performance and efficiency, and its widespread use across the PSA and Vauxhall/Opel ranges means parts availability and mechanic familiarity are generally good.
